Costa Rica

With about two million tonnes of bananas exported in 2000, Costa Rica is the second largest exporter after Ecuador. Bananas are the only major agricultural exports made with pineapples and coffee from afar. Bananas are produced on relatively large farms by independent growers and multinationals, which control about 50% of the planted area.
